As quantum computing capabilities accelerate globally, the threat to traditional encryption protocols becomes an imminent reality. For Indonesia’s critical infrastructure, transitioning to quantum-resistant algorithms is no longer a futuristic luxury but a strategic necessity.

01. The Vulnerability Matrix

Current RSA and ECC encryption standards rely on the mathematical difficulty of integer factorization and elliptic curve discrete logarithms. Once fault-tolerant quantum systems mature, archived encrypted traffic becomes vulnerable to retrospective decryption. For operators managing backbone links, data centers, and mission-critical enterprise traffic, this risk is already shaping procurement strategy.

Technical Advisory

“Harvest now, decrypt later” is an active threat profile where adversaries collect encrypted traffic today while waiting for practical quantum hardware to mature. Long-retention data is the highest-priority surface.

Kawan Teknologi Pratama has been mapping the latency impacts of Post-Quantum Cryptography integration within existing SD-WAN and branch-security architectures. Our field tests show that Kyber-based handshakes and signature-heavy workflows need hardware-aware tuning to preserve application responsiveness.

02. Regional Deployment Roadmap

Our recommended rollout focuses on a phased transition. Start with cryptographic inventory, classify long-lifecycle data, then move high-value secure tunnels and management planes into hybrid PQC-ready stacks. In Indonesia, the first wave makes the most sense across Jakarta-Surabaya corridors, regulated sectors, and distributed manufacturing estates.

The migration to quantum-safe networking is an iterative journey. Organizations should begin with a practical inventory of key exchanges, certificate chains, VPN policies, and archival data flows. From there, pilot environments can be benchmarked before organization-wide rollout.
